The Monastery of Virgin Mary Lechovo is built on the east side of the mountain or Titan Veseza (1207m) at 1050m altitude in mountainous Carinthia.
From Kiato, following the road to the interior of the county, one passes the village of Souli, turn left towards Nemea and meets the village Kryoneri. Just outside it there is a junction that leads to the monastery (4 kilometers) through a path full of lovely trees.Following the ravine on the right bank of the stream Elissona the paved road brings us quickly to the saddle, where before us argues in depth in the pine forest monastery.
Name
As regards the name "Lechovo" prevailing view of many experts that are of Slavic origin. Many, such place names we find in Greece (Arachova, Varnakova, Lelova, Akova, Metsovo Lechovo etc.). In Slavic languages the word "Lecheou" means meadow, field, lawn. So Lechovo = livadotopos.
History
Is unknown when exactly was the monastery of Lechovo. Written monuments did not come to light, or valuable manuscripts, books or they were destroyed by fire, earthquake, or gone through the difficult historical circumstances that disrupt or deserted the place for small or large spaces. The only source of dating remains the universal (temple) and especially the mosaic marble flooring. Professor Anastasios.Orlando in 1934, visited the monastery and studied, found time to put the construction of the floor to the 11th or 12th century AD At the same time the painted mosaics or mosaics on the walls in Nea Moni of Chios, Dafni Monastery, the Monastery of St. Luke Viotia etc.
